On July 5, 1783 military records from NYC state: "invalids again to be sent to Captain Handfield; a fleet will sail for Canada on Wednesday."
Colonel Charles Handfield was the Commissary General of Stores in Ireland stationed in Dublin. He was a Colonel of 26 January 1797 and in 1798 he was commanding the 89th Regiment of Foot. He would have transferred/exchanged sometime before 25th September 1803.
His rank was not progressive [i. e. he was not promoted in General Brevets] and he remained a Colonel and commanding the Commissariat in Ireland in 1815.
In a return, dated 20th April 1820, for troops embarked in 1808 it lists the Commissariat Corps of 187 rank and file sailing with Arthur Wellesley from Cork 26th July 1808. [footnote states "afterwards incorporated in the Waggon Train"]
